PART 1
This “bush to beach” yoga safari adventure begins with four nights at Ol Gaboli (named, in Maasai, for the fig tree that has stood for generations at the heart of the lodge), Kenya’s only all female, all Maasai-owned safari lodge. The Ol Gaboli Women’s Group has partnered with a professional team to create a newly renovated, fully-catered, “barefoot luxury” boutique safari lodge dedicated to conserving the expansive, breathtakingly beautiful land that has been their home for many generations—and to welcoming visitors with warm hospitality, exquisite meals, safety and comfort.
With only five bandas (bungalows) set alongside the Ewaso Nyiro River (each with ensuite bath, private terrace, spectacular views, fast wifi, and simple, stylish, comfy furnishings and decor), our small retreat group will enjoy complete privacy during our remote wilderness experience in this secluded, pristine part of Laikipia in "upcountry” Kenya. From the camp, game drives, safari walks, and optional horseback riding, expect to likely see “Giza,” the black leopard unique to this corner of Kenya, elephants crossing the river at dawn, lions, cheetahs, other leopards, giraffes, zebras, wild dogs, and many other birds and wildlife. We'll also have the opportunity to visit the community that owns the lodge and even optionally help the women collect honey.
Fall asleep hearing lions roaring and hyenas whooping knowing the team of guides and rangers are always on hand, day and night, to keep guests safe while on safari and at the camp.
PART 2
After Laikipia, we’ll fly to car-free Lamu Island (where the Old Town streets are too narrow for cars and transportation is primarily by walking and donkeys, and, in some areas, small motorcycles). From Lamu Island—with its rich UNESCO-listed Swahili history, culture, and architecture—we’ll take a 30-minute boat ride to Manda Bay Lodge, an intimate, family-owned, luxury, rustic-chic, boutique, solar-powered hotel located within a wildlife conservancy on a long, private, white-sand beach in the secluded northwestern tip of Manda Island in Kenya’s Lamu Archipelago. Committed to sustainability, Manday Bay Lodge does not use single-use plastics, conducts regular beach clean-ups, ensures that all plastics (whether from the lodge or shoreline) are recycled, and composts all organic kitchen waste to nourish gardens. Retreat guests will have the option to stay at Manda Bay for 3-6 nights.
A 2-night pre-retreat add-on near Nairobi will be available.
