Dharmachakra Mudra
Teaching yoga since 2000, Christy has studied in India with Sri K. Pattabhi Jois and S.N. Goenka and in the U.S. with a variety of teachers including John Berlinksky, Sarah Powers, Paul Grilley, John Friend, Mata Amritanandamayi, T.K.V. Desikachar, and H.H. the Dalai Lama. In her teaching, and inspired by the present and urgent need for a positive shift in global collective-consciousness, Christy emphasizes mindfulness, breath and alignment; strengthening and moving from core; and cultivating one's highest wellbeing for the benefit of the planet and all beings. Drawing on ancient yogic teachings and elements of the Ashtanga, Iyengar, Anusara and Yin Yoga traditions, Buddhism, and other wisdom traditions, she weaves a creatively flowing, invigorating yet calming, centering yet expanding exploration of Self through Asana. Christy teaches Vinyasa/Flow and Yin Yoga in the San Francisco Bay area and leads workshops and retreats at locations in the U.S. and abroad.

Talks on Ecology
Join Christy Brown, Joslyn Hamilton, and Helge Hellberg for an auspicious full moon weekend at White Lotus Foundation, located on 40 acres overlooking Santa Barbara, the Pacific Ocean, and the Channel Islands. This sacred land was once occupied by the Chumash Indians who called it Taklushmon , The Gathering Place.
During this mostly silent gathering, we'll go gently inward with yoga, meditation and pranayama sessions led by Christy. Through inspiration and guidance, Joslyn will encourage us to deepen our relationship to pen and paper, while Helge will take us on journeys through the world of food, ecology, and interconnectedness. Silent, panoramic, ocean-vista hikes and delicious, healthy meals will be an integral part of this weekend of self-awareness and introspection. And there will be plenty of time for enjoying the hot tub and beautiful sauna bathhouse, situated on the edge of the canyon with magnificent views of Santa Barbara and the Pacific. Learn much more and sample Joslyn's exceptional and exceptionally entertaining writing!

ABOUT JOSLYN HAMILTON
A lifelong writer of one sort or another, Joslyn took a 10-year detour into the yoga world to serve as a teacher, studio manager, and traveling yoga assistant before reclaiming her love of words when she launched her freelance writing business, Outside Eye Consulting . She spends her days ghostwriting for clients, and her off time writing for herself and for the creative project she co-founded in 2010, Recovering Yogi : a web site for the spiritually disenfranchised.
In her popular blog, Cirque du Malaise , Joslyn writes about her relationship to spirituality and self-care in a voice that teeters between earnest and irreverent. She cherishes humor and creativity above all other vices, and believes that reading and writing are some of the best things to live for. Her favorite writers include Jonathan Saffron Foer, Salman Rushdie and Yann Martel. Visit Joslyns website for a list of novels she loves.
She lives in Marin, where, besides writing and practicing yoga, she loves to hike, make pottery, and frequent the local farmers markets. She always answers emails promptly and would love it if you follow her on Twitter !
ABOUT HELGE HELLBERG
Helge Hellberg is an educator, consultant, radio talk-show host, and organic food advocate widely respected for his innovative work in the field of sustainability, ecology, and human health.
Helge is passionate about applying ecology and connecting the dots in all his endeavors and projects. In the past ten years, Helge has established numerous programs that address todays economic, environmental, social, and cultural challenges in new and creative ways. In 2005, while being the Executive Director of Marin Organic, an association of organic food producers in Marin County, CA, Helge created an Organic School Lunch and Gleaning Program using gleanable food left in the fields after the harvest to offset the costs for local organic fruits and vegetables. This program works with over half of all public and private schools in Marin County and gives access to organic food to over 10,000 children each week - all while allowing schools to stay within their tight food service budgets. The program received an award for Economic Excellence from the Marin County Economic Commission in 2006.
Helge is an avid runner and competitive soccer player, who was introduced to yoga by Nick (aka M.C. Yogi) and Amanda Giacomini of Yoga Toes Studio in Point Reyes Station in 2004. Immediately realizing the benefits of yoga for his body and life, Helge has maintained a weekly practice of Vinyasa and Yin Yoga ever since.

A Solstice Prayer
Praises to the Mother and Father and that which transcends all duality... to all small and large creatures, the vast sky and deep ocean, and all that exists beneath and beyond... to the Oneness that connects us to All That Is , which, in its vastness, I cannot fully comprehend but only bow down to in devotion, reverence and gratitude for my life, those in my life, and the beauty, abundance and grace that flows always within me and around. Amen.
I am That.
Thou art That.
All This is That.
And That Alone Is.
Sri Nisargadatta Maharaj
Dear Beloved Divine,
May my intentions serve the higher good of the planet and all beings. May I help to create peace, love and higher consciousness in the collective by cultivating these qualities always more deeply within myself. May my intentions guide me, but may I remain unattached to outcome, for grasping creates resistance to the natural flow and unfolding of the universe. "The future is unwritten," [Joe Strummer] and I do not know where the directions that I establish might ultimately lead me. May I trust that if I align my intentions, thoughts, words and actions to the higher good and if I remain focused on my self-evolution, that I can surrender to the natural unfolding of life. May I release mental-emotional patterns that no longer serve me in order to create space for my potential to expand and my intentions to manifest. May I cultivate deep presence and inner silence, passion and compassion, kindness and gratitude, and devotion, grace and joy, as I travel my path. Treading gracefully, may I remember that the universe is infinitely abundant and that I am infinitely capable. "I open toward the light and lift myself to the gods on the perfume of prayer." [Egyptian Book of the Dead]
"After studying with remarkable yoga teachers from around the world, I celebrate the honor and joy of discovering someone who recognizes and taps in to the sacred wisdom of this ancient practice. Thus I found great cause for celebration the first time I placed my mat in Christy's class. Her depth of knowledge, compassion, and dedication inspire every facet of how and what she teaches; while her grace, humility and gentle kindness guide me again and again to the harmonic balance of my true nature. To breathe in the truth of my dharma, while in the presence of someone who embodies hers so beautifully, is a gift impossible to measure. Thank you, Christy."

"Christy Brown creates a consistent yoga experience with her calm, abiding presence, a voice that opens one's heart space, and a precise way of communicating the various asanas. She allows students to move deeply inward while helping them to build core strength and explore their edge. She's the real deal--caring and compassionate, magical and wise. She will often share teachings through quotes and poems, setting the mood of the room with candlelight and her gentle healing adjustments. Nine years ago, after the birth of my son, I took my first yoga class with Christy and have guarded my Tuesdays and Thursdays from 4:30-6 p.m. ever since!"

" Yoga is what keeps me alive. As a stockbroker I sit for 8 hours a day. Over the last seven years my yin yoga class with Christy Brown has dramatically increased my flexibility and steadily improved an arthritic hip. Christys gentle message of compassion has encouraged my internal growth and enlightenment as well. I am delighted to have such a positive feminine influence in my life."

" I've attended Christys yin class on Sunday nights for years and have been to her Wilbur Hot Springs Retreat 2010 and New Years Celebration 2011 [daylong retreat]. As a professional triathlete (top ten ranked in the world for 10 years and Category 1 cyclist), I cannot express or explain how much her short sessions heal the body, mind and spirit. The energy that she puts out and her healing practice rejuvenate my body and mind and heart more than words can say. As a top athlete I dont need to do any more yang work. Its about restoring and healing the body. Yin yoga stretches my bone and joint areas, and I feel fully recovered after strenuous exercise. Thank you, Christy!"
Nancy Vallance
"I began practicing yoga with Christy a few years ago and have been a regular ever since. I attend three of her classes each week, Sunday evening Yin at the Mill Valley studio and Tuesday/Thursday afternoon 2/3 flow. Christys Sunday Yin class is always to a "sell out" crowd, so I try to arrive early; her soothing voice, choice of music, and words of wisdom set a calming, spiritual tone that allows me to really "drop in" a good way to end the day and begin a new week. Christy's 2/3 flow classes are a favorite of mine, as they are demanding, allowing me to push to the next level, although, she likes to remind me that "pushing" is not yoga.
Last year, I attended Christys Tassajara weekend retreat near Big Sur. She finds all the best spots. Ive also attended Deer Run Zendo [with Christy] in Corte Madera. This one should not be missed. A real treat for all levels."
